Junior guards Trey Autry and Bubu Benjamin announced they entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, dealing a blow to the Revolutionaries as they look to rebound and reshape their roster following a disappointing 2025-26 season.
Autry, who enters the portal as a three-star prospect, averaged 10.7 points per game in the last two seasons, and shot 38.5% from beyond the arc and 43.5% from the field in the 2025-26 season, emerging as the team’s most reliable perimeter scorer. Since stepping onto the court in 2023, Autry started in 34 games and averaged 28.7 minutes per game, all while he put out numerous strong performances this season, including a January matchup against Richmond that saw him score a season high of 24 points.
In an interview with The Hatchet Wednesday, Head Coach Chris Caputo said Autry and Benjamin were instrumental in pushing the program forward this year.
“There’s no doubt that those guys were part of elevating the program,” Caputo said.
Autry reached 20 points twice in his sophomore season and led the team in scoring five times. Compared to his 2024-25 campaign, the Jamesville, New York, native maintained similar production this season, narrowly improving his points-per-game average from 10.4 to 11.0, knocking down a total of 84 3-pointers across the 34 games he played this year.
Autry committed to GW in October 2022 as a three-star recruit from the Western Reserve Academy in Ohio and City Rocks AAU, turning down offers from A-10 contender Rhode Island, University of Cincinnati, Siena University, University of Maryland and eight other schools to join the Revs.
Benjamin entered the portal after his first season with the team, where he averaged 5.8 points per game while starting in 18. The Alberta, Canada native played at Tarleton State University for his first two seasons, averaging 9.4 points per game and shooting 44% overall.
Benjamin was a member of the starting five for the Revs at the beginning of the season, playing upwards of 30 minutes in some games, but fell out of the starting lineup in January after his offense weakened, as seen in his three-game scoreless stretch between Dec. 31 and Jan. 6. He also battled a knee injury from the end of January on.
With Autry and Benjamin entering the portal, the Revs will have to replace two pieces that played starting roles at the beginning of last season. Autry and Benjamin are the first two Revs to announce they are exploring other options.
