Men’s basketball continued to add to next season’s roster as Lafayette College guard Andrew Phillips and Australian forward Deng Manyang announced their commitments to GW in the past week, according to social media posts from Sam Kayser and Mogul Sports Group.
Phillips spent the first three seasons of his college career with the Lafayette Leopards, where he averaged 13.9 points per game, 4.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 32 games in the 2025-26 season, while Manyang is averaging 18.2 points per game, 8.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists this season for the Central Districts Lions of the Australian National Basketball League’s semi-professional league, the NBL1. Both players will add to the transfer-heavy roster Head Coach Chris Caputo is building for the 2026-27 season after a slew of star players announced their departures from the Revolutionaries this offseason.
In his sophomore season, the 6’4″ Phillips broke out for Lafayette, starting in 29 of 34 appearances and recording a triple slash line of 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists after only playing in 16 games his freshman season. Phillips notched a season-high 23 points in the Leopards 67-65 victory over American University in January during his junior season and entered the transfer portal March 26.
Phillips joins a guard room transformed by Caputo this offseason. With his transfer, he joins senior Jean Aranguren, the lone starting holdover from last season, as well as transfers Omari Witherspoon, Felix Kossaras and Terrance Arceneaux. Phillips, a career 35 percent three-point shooter, looks to add more shooting volume at the guard position
Manyang, a 6’7″ forward and development player for the Adelaide 36ers of the NBL, becomes the sixth forward to join the Revolutionaries roster for the 2026-27 season. He is the first true freshman Caputo has added, joining transfers Dylan James, Ryder Frost, Lovro Urbiha, Andrija Vukovic and Malachi Arrington. Manyang’s youth and size can add scoring touch and rebounding prowess to a completely rebuilt forward group.
