George drops the puck

GW doesn’t have a varsity hockey team, but its mascot, George, suited up as a defenseman for mascot hockey at the Verizon Center last night.

The Colonials’ mascot participated in the between-periods hockey game at last night’s Washington Capitals faceoff against the Carolina Hurricanes. While the Caps came away from the night with a 2-1 victory, George’s team wasn’t so lucky, falling 4-0 to their mascot rivals.

As a blueliner, George didn’t add much to the highlight reels, once struggling to return to his feet after colliding with another mascot while attempting to clear the puck down the boards. A few minutes later, Slapshot, the Capitals mascot, stole the puck from George, and carried it down the ice to backhand it into the boards before regaining possession to dump the puck around the post and in.

George returns to the Smith Center for Wednesday’s men’s basketball game against Richmond, with tip set for 7 p.m.
