Blogging from the Alumni Fieldhouse in beautiful Philadelphia. My high school gym in Stamford, Conn., was bigger than this. Few things to note:
As if this story line hasn’t been used enough, there are a number of GW players who are from Philly. Senior Omar Williams, sophomore Maureece Rice and freshman Noel Wilmore. Hobbs has quite the Philly pipeline.
Rob Diggs is back. He is warming up with a mask on, much like Pops’ first from last year. Jack Kvancz told me it sometimes takes a while to get the mask fitted.
As for the game, Saint Joseph’s is as tough of a game as GW will have this year, according to coach Hobbs. The Hawks led the nation in free throw percentage this week at 79.8. May not come into play much today with Saint Joe’s incredible outside shooting. There is no question that Saint Joe’s will come out firing. In his press conference after losing to GW, coach Phil Martelli mentioned getting the chance to play them on their home court.
Needless to say, a win would be enormous for GW. It would bring them to 20-1 and best their start in school history. If you aren’t watching ESPN2 now, turn it on.
