Varsity Roundup

Men’s soccer

The men’s soccer team announced four incoming recruits for next year’s team, including Youth All-American Brendan Lafferty, a native of North Babylon, N.Y. GW will return 24 players and nine starters from last season’s 8-6-3 team.

Women’s rowing

The women’s rowing team finished second of three teams Sunday on the Occoquan Reservoir, finishing behind George Mason but ahead of Mary Washington in The Colonials’ season opener. GW continues its season Saturday at 8 a.m. on the Potomac River against Duke and the University of North Carolina.

Tennis

Women’s: The women’s tennis team (4-7) lost to Delaware 5-2 Sunday in Newark, Del. The Colonials next face UMBC on Saturday at noon in Baltimore.
Men’s: The men’s tennis team (5-6) defeated Navy 4-3 Wednesday in Annapolis. The Colonials travel to Radford Saturday at 2 p.m.

Softball

Softball failed to score during its double-header against James Madison Wednesday in Harrisburg, Va., losing 7-0 and 17-0. GW (8-15, 1-1 Atlantic 10) resumes its A-10 schedule Sunday at Fordham in the Bronx with a double-header starting at noon.
