Volleyball
The GW volleyball team beat George Mason and American but fell to Georgetown, taking second place in this weekend’s D.C. Challenge. Freshman Alyssa Valentine was named to the All-Tournament team.
Women’s Soccer
After losing Friday to Old Dominion in overtime, the GW women’s soccer team put together a late rally of its own Sunday against Bryant University. The Colonials scored two goals in the game’s 89th minute to earn their first victory of the season.
Men’s Soccer
The GW men’s soccer team picked up its second consecutive D.C. College Cup title with a 8-0 demolition of Howard Sunday. Six Colonials scored in that game, and junior Andy Stadler and rookie Yoni Berhanu each knocked in a pair of goals. The win tied the Colonials’ largest margin of victory, set in a 9-1 victory over Howard in 2001. Stadler finished the tournament with three goals and was named the tournament’s most valuable player. GW next takes its 1-0-1 record to Virginia to play Longwood on Sept. 5.
