The women’s basketball team will begin its season ranked No. 21 in the nation by the Associated Press, the news agency announced Tuesday.
The Colonials are also ranked No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and begin the year ranked for the first time since 2007.
The defending Atlantic 10 champions are the only A-10 team to start the year ranked, though Dayton received 13 votes in the AP poll.
The Colonials take on No. 16 Stanford on Nov. 21. Florida Gulf Coast and Iowa, who the Colonials will play on Dec. 3 and Nov. 27, respectively, are also receiving votes.
The Colonials won a program-record 29 games last season and spent 10 weeks ranked in the top-25, peaking at No. 19. The team lost only one player after making the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2008.
