Monday Mix and Editors’ Picks

Monday Mix

Midterms season is upon us. But before you reach for that extra shot of espresso or anxiously refresh Blackboard again, turn up our study tunes playlist for a calmer cramming session.

Editors’ Picks

Film | Emily Holland, Culture Editor

This week’s pick: “Inherent Vice”

Thomas Pynchon doesn’t hand his novels to just any filmmaker, but I’m glad he gave “Inherent Vice” to Paul Thomas Anderson, who can do no wrong when it comes to films. It looks funny, it looks wild and I simply cannot resist Joaquin Phoenix (or those side burns).

Music | Morgan Baskin, Assistant Culture Editor

This week’s pick: “A Sky Full of Stars (Kölsch remix)”

This beautiful, bare and deep house remix of Coldplay’s pop hit is undeniably more beautiful than the original. It’s also a testament to the staying power of Kölsch, the Swedish producer responsible for groovy remixes of Henry Krinkle’s “Stay” and Andhim’s “All That Matters.”

Lit | Tatiana Cirisano, Contributing Culture Editor

This week’s pick: “Stone Mattress: Nine Tales” by Margaret Atwood

Though she’s most widely known as the author of “The Handmaiden’s Tale,” Margaret Atwood has written 14 novels, all packed with stunning descriptions and intricate story lines that unravel the human condition. She’s been one of my favorites for a long time, and I can’t wait to find her latest collection of short stories, “Stone Mattress: Nine Tales” on the shelves.
