Officials announced heightened security measures for Inauguration Day in an email sent to community members Thursday.
The University will close all offices and place campus buildings on GWorld safety mode, meaning the spaces will only be accessible to GWorld cardholders, according to the email. The email states that there is no indication of a threat to the University, but officials are anticipating increased law enforcement presence, road closures, access restrictions and traffic around the Foggy Bottom campus.
According to the email, GW’s dining halls will operate on their weekend schedules on Monday and the Mount Vernon Express will operate on a holiday schedule, meaning a bus will depart each campus every 15 minutes. The Virginia Science and Technology campus shuttle and SafeRide will not operate, per the email.
There will be no street parking near the Foggy Bottom campus on Monday, and “most” GW parking garages will require tap access, according to the email.
Metro transit will bypass the McPherson Square, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, Mt. Vernon Square, Pentagon and Archives stations for security reasons, the email states.
Officials on Saturday sent a second email to community members following President-elect Donald Trump’s Friday announcement that the inauguration ceremony will take place inside the Capitol. The email states that traffic restrictions on the Foggy Bottom campus will be “significantly reduced.”
