Women’s basketball Jonathan Tsipis continues to shape his new program, adding 6-foot-1 forward Jonquel Jones and 5-foot-5 point guard Lauren Chase to the Colonial roster after both players decided to transfer from their current institutions.

Both players competed under assistant head coach Diane Richardson at Riverdale Baptist High School, where she worked as the girls’ basketball head coach prior to her hire at GW.

The news was first reported by Bret McCormick of the All Star Girls Report on Twitter and confirmed by associate head coach Megan Duffy on her own feed. Both players will be eligible to join GW on the court at the end of the first semester of the 2013-14 season.

Jones originally attended Clemson, where, in her first semester of play, she averaged 9.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game over eight games played. As a high school senior, Jones was an ESPN HoopGurlz five-star recruit, with a scouts’ grade of 96.

Chase first signed with UMBC, where she was named the America East Rookie of the Week four times in the 2011-12 season and was ultimately tabbed the league’s rookie of the year. As a freshman, Chase averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 assists per game.
