Cava’s Foggy Bottom location will now open on Wednesday after the company announced in an email this week it would open this Friday, a company spokesperson confirmed.
The fast-casual Mediterranean spot known for its customizable meals will host a grand opening on April 29 at its new location on the corner of 22nd and I streets, in between Whole Foods and Sweetgreen. The company in an email Wednesday said the location would open April 24, but signage outside the site now says the restaurant will host its grand opening April 29, and a spokesperson confirmed that date for opening.
The spokesperson also confirmed the location will not accept GWorld as payment.
Cava’s grand opening follows University officials’ September announcement that the establishment would open a location on campus this spring after Roti, the former tenant of the space, closed last spring.
While the company’s website previously advertised the Foggy Bottom location as “coming soon,” the Foggy Bottom location page is no longer on Cava’s website as of Friday.
Officials announced they would purchase the Residences on The Avenue, an apartment complex that houses the space Cava will occupy, in 2023 after selling a lease to the land more than 15 years ago.
Cava is the latest addition to a wave of new dining options that opened on campus over the last year. South Block, a D.C.-based smoothie and juice bar chain, opened in February and Gigi’s Pasta, a customizable pasta restaurant, opened last October, both of which accept dining dollars.
Chick-fil-A also opened a new location in Mitchell Hall in September, and Panda Express opened a location on I Street in March of 2025 — both of which offer flex meals and dining dollar payments.
The Foggy Bottom Cava will be the chain’s seventh location in D.C. and one of over 400 locations nationwide, according to its website.
