The Presidential Search Committee will host a series of community forums in September to gain feedback from the GW community about their expectations for the next University, according to an email sent to community members Monday.
Roslyn Brock and Jim Tielsch, the chair and vice chair of the Presidential Search Committee, said that those interested in participating in the forums can register online for the in-person and virtual Sep. 8 and 9 events, where staff, faculty, students and alumni can register for individual sessions to give officials feedback on their ideal University leader. Officials said the forums come after officials involved in the search process, including trustees, the Presidential Search Committee, the faculty consultative committee and the Faculty Senate’s executive committee, met over the summer and decided that soliciting input from GW community members through the forums is an “essential part” of the presidential search.
“To elaborate, the Presidential Search Committee is especially eager to hear directly from faculty, students, staff, alumni and friends of GW about what you would like the next president to accomplish in the first five years,” they said in an email.
Brock and Tielsch said that members of the presidential search committee and consultants Ilene Nagel, John Simon and Charlie Kaler of Education Executives – a California-based executive search firm – will attend the community forums. Officials selected Education Executives in June to guide the search process.
“As we enter what we hope will be a post-COVID period in higher education, it is important to think about what should be GW’s highest priorities, and how GW can leverage its unique strengths,” they said.
They said the Presidential Search Committee decided to schedule both in-person and virtual forums to “maximize your ability to participate.” They added that community members are encouraged to submit feedback on the search process through their website.
“Information about the dates, times, location and links to register for the forums are provided on the presidential search website,” they said. “We look forward to hearing from you.”
