McKeown still searching for final assistant
GW women’s basketball head coach Joe McKeown is still looking for a third assistant coach, a position left vacant by former assistant Kathy Wilson.
A possible replacement could come from within.
“We are currently looking at different candidates. I have looked at maybe moving (Director of Basketball Operations Eran Horodniceanu) up to the position,” McKeown said. “I have conducted several phone interviews. I might bring three candidates to campus in July and I would like to decide by mid-July, but that might be pushing it.”
His current assistants, Lisa Cermingnano and Tajama Ngongba, have been on the road on recruiting trips.
Joens back on campus
Former women’s basketball star Cathy Joens is back at GW after the WNBA’s New York Liberty released her last month.
She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in health promotion-disease prevention, but her basketball career may not be over.
“A few (WNBA) teams have called her about joining them sometime midseason,” McKeown said. “She is still waiting to hear from some teams about the opportunity to play.”
