Men’s Basketball
GW had three NCAA wins in the last two years under its belt, but had not yet shaken the fluke image in the minds of all college basketball fans. The opportunity for the Colonials to prove their real mettle came in a season-opening ESPN-televised Preseason NIT game at No. 12 Syracuse. The game was played not in the Carrier Dome, but in Manley Field House because of a scheduling conflict.
The Colonials thought they would escape with the win in regulation, but SU’s Michael Lloyd banked in a desperation three to send the game to overtime, where GW dominated.
