The dean of the School of Nursing will leave her position at the end of June, officials announced in a release Wednesday.

Pamela Jeffries, who was named dean of the nursing school in 2015, will leave GW to serve as the dean of Vanderbilt University’s nursing school in July, the release states. While serving as the nursing school dean, Jeffries expanded enrollment in the school and grew research and degree programs.

“The opportunity I’ve been given over the last six years to lead the school of nursing at such a pivotal time in its young history has been such an honor,” Jeffries said in the release. “Our success and growth has been the result of the collaborative efforts of an amazingly talented group of faculty and staff who work tirelessly on behalf of our nursing students. This has been one of my most rewarding experiences, professionally and personally, and I will always cherish my time at GW.”

Under Jeffries’ leadership, the school received a $2.5 million donation last year to support veterans pursuing a nursing education at GW. Officials also renovated a section of the school’s building in 2017 to increase communal spaces for students.

Jeffries serves as the president of the Virginia Association of Colleges of Nursing, as a member of the board of directors for the American Academy of Nursing and as a member of the the Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education for the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine, the release states.

“Pam has been a transformational leader for GW,” Provost Brian Blake said in the release. “The advancements she’s made to the school of nursing’s operations, services and academic programming are exceptional and will strengthen our ability to attract another outstanding dean. We will miss her but we wish her the best of success at Vanderbilt University.”
