Men’s basketball was back in action Saturday night, one day after announcing a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, athletic department spokesperson Brian Sereno confirmed Monday.
A staff member in the team’s traveling party tested positive for the virus Friday, and the team paused all basketball activities until further testing and contact tracing could be completed. The contact tracing and additional testing cleared the team to resume practice Saturday night, Sereno said in an email.
The team postponed its road matchup with St. Bonaventure due to the positive case, which was originally slated for Saturday night. The team will also need to make up its game with Massachusetts, which was postponed due to a D.C.-wide curfew after rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
GW is one of nine Atlantic 10 schools to have its men’s basketball schedule and season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Colonials are back in action to take on VCU Wednesday. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
