The Society of Professional Journalists selected The Hatchet as winners for four regional awards and finalists for six awards in an annual journalism competition.
First-place Mark of Excellence Awards winners from Region 2 will compete nationally among newspapers from 12 other regions. Region 2 includes collegiate newspapers in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and North Carolina.
The Hatchet won in the following categories:
