Finalists for 29 individual award categories were chosen from a pool of more than 2,500 submissions and about 11 percent were named finalists, according to an Associated Collegiate Press release.
The photo was taken at a candlelight vigil in Kogan Plaza in February that honored the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. on Feb. 14.
The Hatchet was also named a finalist for best online college newspaper by the Associated Collegiate Press earlier this month.
Winners in all award categories will be announced at the organization’s national convention Oct. 25 through 28 in Louisville, Ky.
