It is a little known fact that Foggy Bottom has a rich German history. Today, that history manifests itself in The United Church.
“The original name of the church was ‘Concordia’ and a lot of Germans who lived here called it ‘Little Hamburg,'” said Christina Hamburg, a longtime member of the church.
Today, The United Church serves as a home away from home and a preservation of culture for Foggy Bottom’s remaining German population.

The Hatchet incorrectly reported that James Semmelroth Darnell was a pastor for The United Church. We regret this error.
