GW associate head coach Steve Pikell will be named head men’s basketball coach at Stony Brook University in Long Island on Wednesday, according to the university’s assistant athletic director for media relations, Rob Emmerich. GW athletic director Jack Kvancz said Pikell’s departure “is not a done deal yet.”
Pikell has been a member of coach Karl Hobbs’ staff at GW for the past four years and was named associate head coach after last season. Before coming to GW, Pikell spent five years as an assistant coach at Central Connecticut State University, three years at Yale University and one under Jim Calhoun at his alma mater, Connecticut.
Kvancz did confirm that sophomore Ricky Lucas will transfer at the end of the semester. The shooting guard spent two years at GW, averaging 4.2 points per game. It is unknown at this time where Lucas will be next season.
