Officials opened three food vendors across campus Monday after months of construction.
On the first floor of the University Student Center, officials opened fried chicken vendor Absurd Bird and reopened Panera Bread after renovating the eatery over the summer. Officials also opened District House Market, where students can purchase grab-and-go items and groceries using dining dollars.
Panera Bread is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Absurd Bird is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., noon to 8 p.m. Saturdays and closed on Sundays. District House Market is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Student Association Vice President Demetrius Apostolis in August said the idea for District House Market arose after Whole Foods announced in April 2022 that it would no longer accept GWorld as a form of payment beginning in June. Officials announced plans for District House Market in April to supplement the closing of Crisp, a salad vendor in District.
Absurd Bird provides meal deal options for community members, including a chicken sandwich, two-piece tender, rotisserie chicken and a salad meal deal.
The opening of Absurd Bird also comes as community members wait in limbo for Chick-fil-A to reopen in the student center after officials announced in August 2021 that it would move there from its location in District House but provided no timeline on its relocation.
