As you probably know, today is Giving Tuesday, a day of philanthropy and generosity that serves as a reminder of the power of giving to transform communities.
At The Hatchet, our mission has always been community driven. We aspire to serve every member of the GW community by accurately and transparently presenting news that informs readers like you, all while teaching the next generation of journalists. The Hatchet receives no funding from GW and we rely on donations to pay our rent and print our weekly edition.
Like other businesses and nonprofits, we are still emerging from the devastating effect COVID-19 has had on our finances. Although campus has reopened, we are still struggling to build up our advertising revenue to the level it was at before the pandemic, as many businesses still no longer have the budget.
I’m writing today to ask you to help us continue to do what we do.
We’re the only news outlet that reports the full details of every Board of Trustees and Faculty Senate meeting, the only outlet that dives deep into GW’s pandemic response and the only outlet on campus that publishes new content every day for readers like you.
Right now, GW is on the verge of a presidential transition and is still facing the ongoing pandemic. The Hatchet’s journalists will be there to cover all of it, powered by your generosity.
Any contribution from you is tax-deductible and would go a long way to ensuring that we can continue to connect the voices of students to administrators, to keep parents and alumni informed about news at GW and to foster community on campus.
Thank you for your consideration, and thank you for reading The Hatchet.
