The Associated Collegiate Press named The Hatchet one of the best online college newspapers in the country Thursday.
The Hatchet is one of 21 student publications selected for an online Pacemaker Award, which was announced virtually at the Fall National College Media Convention. Judges considered work from Volume 116, which ran through the 2019-20 academic year.
Sports editor Emily Maise secured fourth place for sports game story of the year. ACP honored her blog, “Richmond stunts men’s basketball’s two-game win streak.”
Managing editor Parth Kotak and administration editor Zach Schonfeld picked up third place for their blog, “Police, protesters clash during second night of demonstrations in D.C.” ACP also handed Kotak second place for his social media coverage of Black Lives Matter protests in D.C. in May.
Schonfeld also received an honorable mention for reporter of the year.
