The Hatchet, an independent student newspaper, is seeking highly motivated students for immediate placement in training for management positions – all while earning commissions and weekly stipends in a sales role.
By the end of the spring semester, The Hatchet’s Advertising Director and Sales Director positions will need to be filled by innovative and creative GW students. The Ad Director oversees the ad department at the newspaper and communicates with large national advertising firms and the University marketing department. The Sales Director leads a team of sales representatives, providing guidance and support.
These positions are for students who are interested in cultivating leadership skills as well as increasing sales experience and aptitude in a real-world work environment.
While training for these management positions, students will fulfill the role of a sales rep, allowing for extra income by adding the potential for commission to the weekly training stipend.
The role of sales rep is as follows:
– Works four to five hours per week and earns $25 per week plus 20 percent commission on any new business sold (any advertisers who have not advertised in the past year) in addition to possible bonus for monthly achievement
– Pursues new advertising clients for The Hatchet through cold calling or onsite visits
– Meets budgeted goals
– Writes orders
– Collects payment
– Quotes rates
– Writes contracts
– Verifies placement/receipt of ad material
– All other duties as specified by Ad Director/Sales Director
– Reports to Ad Director/ Sales Director
Requirements:
– Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at GW
– Ability to think strategically
– Excellent communications skills
– Strong work ethic and ambition
