The Buff and Blue Fund officially launched yesterday, looking to boost unrestricted annual giving for the university’s athletics programs.
Athletic director Patrick Nero announced the fund’s creation to The Hatchet in June, its inception born of the findings of the department’s year-long athletics review and resulting strategic plan for the direction of athletics programs.
The fund will seek to raise revenue for the Department of Athletics and Recreation and support the University’s athletics programs, from its coaches to student-athletes and athletics support staff, as well as improving team facilities, travel and recruiting.
A release touted the fundraising effort as a means for fans to stay connected with the various athletics programs, as well as continue to build the University’s profile among collegiate athletics.
“GW continues to work on improving fan and donor experiences, including the environment within hospitality areas at men’s and women’s basketball games at the Charles E. Smith Center,” the release said. “The Buff & Blue Fund will truly provide a personal, meaningful, social and charitable way for our donors to support our programs while interacting with other donors as well as coaches, staff and student-athletes.”
