W. soccer nets two Preseason All-Rookie team selections

Before even setting foot onto the field in a Colonials uniform, a pair of GW women’s soccer freshmen have been named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Rookie team, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Alex Neal, a defender from Lake Villa, Ill. set a single season scoring record at Lakes Community High School last season with 37 goals in her senior season. Joining Neal as an All-Rookie selection is Jane Wallis, a midfielder from Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. who helped lead her high school team to three class B state championships in New York.

In addition to its All-Rookie team, the A-10 also released its Preseason All-Conference squads on Tuesday. No GW player received a Preseason All-Conference nod.

The Colonials will kick off their 2010 season beginning on August 17 with a home exhibition match against Old Dominion. The regular season will begin 10 days later on Aug. 27 with a road game against local rival Georgetown.
