Men’s basketball assistant lands head coaching gig

Darrell Brooks, one of GW men’s basketball coach Karl Hobbs’s assistants since he arrived in Foggy Bottom eight years ago, has been named the head coach at Bowie State, Fox Sports reported this morning.

Brooks was the Bulldogs’ starting point guard from 1975 to 1979 and was previously a head coach at Western Maryland College during the 2000-01 season, after which he took a job under Hobbs at GW. He was an assistant at Bowie State in the 1984-85 season before serving the same position at five more schools over the next 15 years, including nearby American (1990-93) and George Mason (1993-97).
