In “Sororities see record interest” (Sept. 18, Web Extra), The Hatchet incorrectly reported that students can choose to visit all eight sororities the first night. Students must visit all sororities.
The Panhellenic Association agreed, not voted, last year to refrain from using Townhouse Row for publicity.
Sororities have always spent money on recruitment, but increased spending limitations to $1,900 this year.
Fiona Conroy, president of the Panhellenic Association, said she could not comment on whether there were any recruitment violations this year. She did not say there were no violations.
She also said there are consequences for violators.
In the article “Rush Tactics Worry IFC” (Sept. 18, p. 1), incorrectly reported Zeta Beta Tau took away recognition from the current “APES” group because of severe hazing in the spring of 2001. The national fraternity took away recognition after the group created a “two-tier” membership system in which full members had authority over newly initiated members.
