Pulitzer Prize-winning author Herman Wouk accepted an invitation to serve as keynote speaker for GW’s Commencement on the Ellipse May 20. Six other honorary degree recipients, including singer Tony Bennett, will address the class of 2001 at graduation.
“We were very excited when he accepted,” said Bob Ludwig, assistant director of Media Relations. “We think it’s the exclamation point on this incredible list of speakers.”
Ludwig said Wouk had not accepted the invitation when GW announced the seven speakers last week. National Symphony Orchestra Director Leonard Slatkin, National Science Foundation Director Rita Colwell, Southeastern University President Charlene Drew Jarvis, asthma inhaler inventor H.R. Shepherd and Greater Washington Board of Trade President John R. Tydings complete the list of honorees.
