Stressed students broke out their Crayons and scribbled in their Program Board coloring book Thursday night at Caf? Gelman.
Gelman Library has hosted the event once a semester for the past eight years – right before final exams begin – to give students a break from studying. Thursday night the first-floor study lounge was transformed into a coffee house, complete with Christmas lights and entertainment.
In years past, students who attended the event received free Gelman mugs with a GWorld ID. This year, PB provided a GW coloring book for students while they placed orders for latt?s and coffees. The book features scenes from Kogan Plaza, Colonials basketball games and the World Bank and International Monetary Fund protests.
At the library, we wanted to change the pace a little, Gelman Library Student Liaison Stephanie Weinstein said. We’re giving something back to the students. She added that about 150 students attended Caf? Gelman throughout the night.
The Pitches performed at about 9 p.m., and other students sang folk songs and read poetry. Estelle Gelman – whose family the library is named after – attended the event with her children.
Junior Phil Meisner, who has attended about six Caf? Gelman events, said he was just walking by the library when he decided to drop by.
I’ve been coming so many times, it’s almost a natural habit, he said.
