Men’s Basketball
With 13,316 stunned fans streaming out of Cole Field House, GW’s Kevin Hall yelled, The night belongs to you, and the game belongs to GW!
There was no doubt about who the you in that sentence was. Senior guard John Holloran had just scored 38 points on 16-of-24 shooting to shock the Terrapins and end GW’s 17-game, 16-year losing streak to Maryland.
At that time, it was pretty big for our program because no local team had beaten (Coach) Lefty (Driesell) since he’d gotten to Maryland, said Bob Tallent, GW’s coach from 1974-1981.
That night, Driesell called Holloran’s performance the best I’ve seen in Cole Field House.
