Student gets hit by vehicle

A male resident of the Hall on Virginia Avenue was struck by a car Tuesday night, said University Police.

UPD Director Dolores Stafford said the HOVA resident was struck in the arm by the car’s side view mirror at about 11 p.m. The resident was crossing Rock Creek Parkway at Virginia Avenue when the accident occurred.

The HOVA resident declined to go to the hospital, but his injuries were treated with ice, Stafford said.

Vania Smith, HOVA community director, said the resident had minor cuts and bruises. Stafford said the HOVA resident did not see the vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle did not seem to know that the HOVA resident was hit.

Smith said HOVA community facilitators will speak with building residents about the heavy traffic on Virginia Avenue.

“We’re taking the time now to educate students about using the crosswalks,” Smith said.
