Lifton, Maxim outline goals for the SA at annual transition luncheon

Student Association leadership changed hands Wednesday afternoon in a brief ceremony in Post Hall on the Mount Vernon campus, when Jason Lifton and Rob Maxim were sworn in as SA president and executive vice president, respectively.

Both Lifton and Maxim briefly outlined several of their goals for the upcoming year, promising improvements to Student Judicial Service policies, Gelman Library, and for the SA to continue to be a resource for all students on campus.

Maxim said he looked forward to the incoming senate’s enthusiasm and to a “continued dialogue throughout the year” with students, faculty, and administrators.

Before tossing the SA office keys Lifton, outgoing SA President Julie Bindelglass, voice shaking slightly, called this past year “an incredible chance” to work with some of GW’s most passionate students.

Sen. Erik Ashida, CCAS-U, was presented with the Josh Lasky Senator of the Year award.

Ashida, who served as this year’s Academic Affairs Committee chair, “has been a tireless advocate for academic affairs” and for Gelman Library, Lifton said.

Members of the incoming senate were also sworn in, although of the 30 or so senators elected in February, less than a dozen showed up to the ceremony.
