Adding credence to a since-deleted tweet from head coach Karl Hobbs, an e-mail was sent to men’s basketball season-ticket holders today advertising a Tuesday home game in the opening round of the College Basketball Invitational.
The e-mail, which was also posted to fan site GWHoops.com by one of the recipients, states that the game will be played at 8 p.m. at the Smith Center, though Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz said no such details were definite and that he could not comment about the tournament. According to the message, tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon.
As mentioned in the e-mail, GW’s opponent would not be determined until later this evening when bids to the NCAA and NIT tournaments are announced in televised selection shows. The NCAA selection show airs at 6 p.m. on CBS and the NIT show will air on ESPN at 9 p.m.
The CBI began in 2008 and features 16 teams. The Colonials would be the second Atlantic 10 program to participate, with Richmond having played in the past two tournaments. The Spiders reached the semifinals last year, where they lost to the University of Texas-El Paso.
