Reports from multiple news sources say D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray – a GW alumnus – will announce his intention to challenge Mayor Adrian Fenty in the Democratic primary election.
He is expected to speak to supporters around 2 p.m. Tuesday outside the Frank D. Reeves Center, according to the reports.
In December, Gray told The Hatchet in an interview that he was considering running for mayor. Other candidates are already in the race, but none so far have been called major challengers to Fenty.
The Democratic primary for the mayoral election is scheduled for Sept. 14.
