A group of seven boys and girls allegedly beat and robbed a woman early Tuesday morning on Pennsylvania Avenue near 26th Street, Metropolitan Police Commander Matt Klein said in an e-mail to second district residents.
The woman reported she had been approached by a “group of juveniles,” at approximately 12:44 a.m. and was assaulted and robbed of her purse by three of the females in the group, according to the e-mail Klein sent to the MPD-2D e-mail group this morning. The juveniles fled toward Rock Creek Park, and a taxi driver who witnessed the crime reported that one of the males “appeared to be armed with a handgun,” Klein said.
MPD officers then broadcasted a “flash lookout” and several officers canvassed the area. The group was seen running near Ivory Tower at 23rd and G streets, and MPD officers chased and stopped the group – three females and four males – all who were identified as being involved in the robbery, Klein said. Six of the seven were juveniles, and one of the males – it is not clear whether he was an adult or not – carried a toy handgun, Klein said. All were arrested for armed robbery.
