Update, 7:31 p.m.
The JEC has added a note on its Web site to clarify that the outdated constitution is hosted by the Student Association.
“The JEC has no control over the version of the document posted,” the note states.
Executive Vice President Jason Lifton said he did post a link to the outdated copy on the SA Web site several weeks ago, but updated the version yesterday. The JEC used the old SA post on their Web site, which hadn’t been automatically corrected, Lifton said.
“Although the link was incorrect on the JEC’s web site, the Infomail directed people to the SA’s Web site for the most up-to-date version, which was correct,” Lifton said.
The Infomail directed students to view the constitution at the SA Web site and visit gwelection.com “for more information.”

With today’s Student Association constitution referendum underway, a problem regarding the publicized version of the new document has arisen.
The copy of the proposed constitution link to at gwelection.com is the incorrect version and not the one the Senate passed last month. It does not contain the changes that were made during the Senate debate.
Students voting on today’s constitution referendum have been directed to view the outdated PDF file on the Joint Elections Committee Web site. This morning’s special election Infomail links to the site.
Sen. Jamie Baker, a member of the constitution task force, said that the version on the JEC Web site is only the first draft the task force produced. It does not include the change to a “Freshman Assembly” or include freshman senators. It also says that the student body will directly elect a speaker of the senate. During debate, the senate amended the speaker position to be appointed internally, The Hatchet previously reported.
Whether today’s referendum is successful, an SA Court law suit could potentially invalidate the results.
