SirValiant Brown sat the bench again Sunday after playing his most minutes for the Philidelphia 76ers in the Shaw’s Summer League and scoring his only basket Friday. The former GW guard finished league play as the rookie team’s least productive player.
Brown followed his best showing Friday – one basket in 14 minutes – with 10 minutes of scoreless play and one turnover Saturday.
Brown went scoreless in earlier play July 16 before Coach Larry Brown benched the guard Wednesday and Thursday. Brown is last in a long line of current 76ers guards and other reserves with professional basketball experience. All are vying invites to the 76ers training camp.
Speedy Claxton, who finished as the team’s most productive point guard in the summer, did not play Friday. Jumaine Jones hit a three-pointer with a second remaining forcing overtime and allowing the 76ers to pull out a 96-89 victory.
Pepe Sanchez, a former Temple guard, racked eight assists and scored five points in 27 minutes of play Thursday as Brown watched from the bench.
Brown was invited to play for the 76ers after going unselected in the June 27 NBA Draft.
Brown’s mother Marcella Brown said Brown received a slew of offers from professional teams in Europe and from the NBA’s developmental league.
