Same-sex couples in D.C. may just have a brighter holiday season this year. The D.C. City Council passed a bill 11 to 2 that will legalize same-sex unions, affording them the same rights as heterosexual couples married in the District. Two of the members of the city council are openly gay.
Mayor Adrian Fenty, D, is expected to sign the bill, and if it passes the 30-day congressional review period couples will be able to start marrying come spring.
