George Mason University defeated the Colonials 5-4 with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday afternoon at Spuhler Field. The loss ended the Colonials’ six-game winning streak.
GMU’s (5-8) Stephen Johnson tied the game with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning off GW’s Jason Baker. GW’s Mike O’Connor (0-1) pitched the ninth, giving up the game-winning double to Bruce Baldwin.
The Colonials (7-7) had better success against Howard Tuesday. In the second game of the day’s doubleheader, GW defeated Howard 7-2 after overcoming an early 2-0 second inning deficit. The Colonials scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning when Tony Brown hit his first solo homerun.
In the first game, Greg Conden earned his first victory of the season with a 9-0 shutout victory over the Bison. Conden allowed just one hit in five complete innings.
