Gameday here on 22nd Street, where GW is facing perennial Atlantic 10 cellar dweller St. Bonavenutre. The Bonnies haven’t done much this season yet except upset St. Louis in Olean, N.Y. They played Syracuse at Carrier Dome and lost by 12 on Dec. 30.
GW hasn’t lost to Bonaventure since Feb. 26, 2003 in Olean. The last time Bonaventure beat the Colonials at Smith Center was Feb. 11, 1989. The Bonnies have Zarryon Fereti who was the A-10’s co-player of the week along with GW’s Maureece Rice.
The Colonials should beat this team pretty handily but the crowd will be interesting in this game. There aren’t many people here yet and its 43 minutes until game time. Another interesting storyline is Carl Elliott. Karl Hobbs keeps saying that there will be nights when Elliott wont be on but it seems as though that’s nearly every night recently. Elliott broke out in Amherst against UMass Wednesday with 19 points but can he do it here against Fereti? Michael Lee, a junior on Bonaventure, is averaging 17.4 ppg in the last five games. Should be something to watch out for.
And then there’s GW’s home court winning streak, which is now at 21 games. The streak is fifth-best in Division I basketball.
Stay tuned.
