Walking into a potential employer’s office with a nervous attitude, little eye contact, sloppy manners and an inability to answer questions can be fatal to an interview.
That is why the Career Center has provided the courses and material to educate students on the proper way to be an interviewee.
Making a good first impression with a firm handshake, polite manners and smiling will start any interview off on the right track.
It is important to act natural, speak clearly, sit up straight and appear animated about the position. If a negative experience from the past should come up in the interview, such as a sudden job change, loss of a position or a bad grade, the applicant should not appear defensive, experts say.
Instead, the applicant should speak about what he or she has learned from the experience.
After the interview the applicant should write down the name and title of the interviewer in order to write a thank you letter.
By doing so, the applicant can ask about any unanswered questions and show good communication skills.
