Syracuse’s improbable 58-57 win over Georgetown at Madison Square Garden tonight inspired me. On this blog a few weeks ago I wrote that I thought Syracuse was weak this year. Excuse me while I eat my words. The Orange marched into the Garden and beat No. 1 Connecticut and the Hoyas in consecutive days. As I sit in my house in Connecticut, I’m impressed and upset.
The perpetual Hatchet question–what do I make of this.
Teams, like Cuse and Saint Joseph’s, who have had mediocre seasons need a very huge conference tournament to make to the tournament. Gerry McNamara is playing for his tournament life and these teams get hyped. But teams with good coaches always impress me. Jim Boeheim, a hall of famer, can lead this team deep into a wide open tournament field.
In other news, sources have been mixed with news of the return of senior Pops Mensah-Bonsu. Some are saying he’ll definitely be back while others are pretty skeptical.
Stay with us.
