IFC cancels social events after student’s death

All fraternity events involving alcohol this weekend have been canceled to respect the death of sophomore Laura Treanor, said Chas Pressner, president of the Inter-Fraternity Council.

Treanor, who was found dead Friday morning, was a member of the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority.

Pressner added that fraternities were scheduled to begin spring rush on Monday. Rush events will not begin until after a memorial service for Treanor is held. A memorial service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday.

“I asked all IFC fraternities to cancel all sponsored social events and they all complied,” said Pressner, a sophomore. “They we’re very cooperative.”
