The U.S. Capitol building will be plenty photogenic, just in time for Commencement pictures on the National Mall.
After two years of being covered in metal framing to allow workers to repaint and restore the building’s dome, the scaffolding will be removed from the building by the end of the month, DCist reported Wednesday.
Workers removed 14 layers of lead paint and decaying ornaments from the dome’s exterior, fixed more than 1,000 cracks on the top of the building and painted three layers of fresh white paint on the dome, according to DCist.
The renovation project is expected to be completed before inauguration next year.
