The city will be cleaning and inspecting pipes on several streets near campus starting in February, according to a notice from D.C.’s Water and Sewer Authority.

Affected streets include New Hampshire Avenue and 24th Street, 25th Street and I Street, and 22nd Street and L Street, and work could be done between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until December 2016. Work will be done on other nearby streets at nighttime because of higher volumes of traffic and other construction done during the day.

The work will include truck using a camera to record the conditions of sewer mains on some streets. Workers will also use a vacuum truck to remove debris from pipes if necessary and will line the pipes with “cured in place pipe.”

“These procedures will require the inspection and cleaning of sewer mains in order to determine whether further maintenance and repairs are needed,” the notice reads.

The document states that residents living in those areas should expect noise and odor during the pipe lining process and that the odor should leave within two to four hours after the work is completed.

Water will be temporarily shut off in certain areas and the city will notify affected residents 24 hours in advance, according to the document. Residents could occasionally be asked to refrain from using appliances that require water and to limit showers and baths.

Traffic could also be impacted because of the work, including lane closures and parking limitations according to the notice.

“D.C. Water will work to maintain public safety throughout the project, and will restore all work areas to their original condition following completion of the project,” the notice states.
