Students looking for a post-workout drink might notice some changes to the Lerner Heath and Wellness Center’s smoothie shop.
The gym’s café is now called South Block GW, store owner Amir Mostafvi said Monday. The store, which is not owned by the University and was previously known as Campus Fresh, serves smoothies, juices and other healthy options to GW students.
Mostafvi said that after he opened a second store in Arlington, Va., this time under the name South Block, he noticed GW students coming into the new store and posting pictures of the juices and smoothies on social media, tagging the location as South Block.
“We knew it was time to focus all our attention on the South Block brand,” he said.
He added that besides a new chalkboard menu, everything at the GW location will remain the same.
“GW is a special location because that’s where it all started,” Mostafvi said. “We actually started at Foggy in 2004, right off campus, and then moved in to HelWell in 2006.”
This isn’t the first time a GW eatery has changed its moniker. Last year, one Mount Vernon campus eatery, ZeBi, changed its name to Zime. One Arabic professor said the change may have been because in most Arabic dialects, “zebi” sounds like the word for “penis.”
