It’s spring semester, which means a huge wave of students have or are about to set off around the world for exciting semesters abroad. Here at The Hatchet we like to keep in touch with our staff members who go abroad, and throughout the semester, they will be sending updates to our Passports blog as well as some pieces in print.

I am so excited to be here! Ever since I landed it still seems really surreal. I am really anxious to get to school and get settled. After strolling the streets for a few hours last night, I realize that I basically have a huge light-up sign over my head at all times that says “American.” It’s certainly awkward – everyone can tell I am not from around here. My goal for the next few weeks is to try to look like I belong. As I sit in a Prêt à Manger coffee shop right now writing this, I am trying not to speak so as not to reveal my lack of a British accent, and I have tucked my A-to-Z map of London under my coat so no one can see it.
