Washington Nationals fans won’t have to leave post-season games early this year to catch a Metro ride home.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced Monday that it will extend late-night service from the Navy Yard-Ballpark station from Sunday to Thursday to accommodate fans heading to the Nationals’ upcoming five-game series, which starts Friday.
If games during the series run past 10:30 p.m., Metro will add an additional hour of service for the Navy Yard-Ballpark station until 12:20 a.m. Metro riders will be notified through stadium announcements and via Twitter (@wmata).
The Metro will operate on its regular weekend schedule on Friday and Saturday, staying open until 3 a.m.
Riders will be able to exit any Metro station during the extended hours, but only the Navy Yard-Ballpark station will be open to the public during the extended weekday hours.
The Metro service partnered with American University to cover the cost to keep trains running later.
