Today, ESPN/USA Today released its coaches poll of the top 25 men’s basketball teams in the country. During the season this happens on Monday afternoons along with the release of the main Web site power rankings and the AP poll. After these rankings become available, I will post a digest of them in the blog. I’ll also post GW’s RPI weekly as calculated by a number of sites and the RPI for our weekly opponents and some conference rivals. For now, here’s where GW stands in the preseason according to a number of .
ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll: 24
ESPN.com Preseason Rankings: 26
CBSsportsline.com Rankings: 10
CNNSI.com Power Rankings: 24
A Brief Discussion of Rankings:
Most of the polls and Web sites seem to agree that we’re a Preseason Top-25 team, barely. The guy at CBSsportsline seems to like us a lot. Before the NBA Draft, he had us ranked 12th. This may be a bit high and contrasts with what seems to be the consensus in ranking us on the bubble of the Top-25. Some people I’ve spoken with seem to think we deserve to be ranked higher than 24, and I don’t disagree. But because we don’t have a reputation for sustained excellence yet, we aren’t going to be a pre-season top 15 team even if we deserve to be. I wouldn’t be surprised if we climbed much higher during the season at times.
In addtition to posting observations about the team, I will from time to time, post links to articles about the basketball teams from other Web sites at the end of posts. Below is an article chronicling an interview with Mike Hall. Enjoy.
